i personally never thought it was new. i knew what OPS was then some guy told me about WAR. then i went on fangraphs.com and saw all the different sabermetric stats and how they are more accurate way of judging how good a player is.It's just a typical part of human nature- a lot of people tend to believe that 'Progress' simply means, 'If it's new, it's better than what's old.' Some people have the OPPOSITE problem- My Dad, for example, refuses to believe that anything new could possibly work better than something that's already been around for a long time (like paint, for instance- he's a builder).If you taught science then you understand a bell curve. It applies here too. You've got a percentage who think the new stat is the best thing ever, a relatively equal percentage that think it's garbage and most of the people somewhere in the middle. The big group in the middle isn't going to talk about it. The radical ones are. So that's what you see.
