Walk in Clinic: Late Night and Weekend Medical Aid

Article by Anders Abadie

While preparing a late night snack intended to quiet a rumbling stomach, a slip of a kitchen knife causes a deep gash in the hand, and there is no doubt stitches will be necessary to close the wound. Antibiotics may be necessary as well, to ward off a staph infection.

A weekend spent working on a home improvement remodeling project, which had not seemed daunting at the onset, but suddenly veers into dangerous territory when a miscalculation with the nail gun leads to a painful injury, and medical assistance is required, the sooner the better according to Mr. Handyman.

In both of these scenarios, once it is determined no one's life is in jeopardy, but medical attention is needed right away, the question becomes whether it will be an Emergency Room or a walk in clinic that will be visited?

The ability to have access to trained medical personnel without the necessity of a pre scheduled appointment, and during hours when most doctor's offices have closed for the day is something the public is appreciative of having available to them. In addition to the convenience factor, there is the financial savings enjoyed by avoiding an unnecessary ER visit. Not so long ago the need for aid by a doctor or nurse in the evening or on a weekend was only met by going to an ER, but that has changed now that most cities have a walk in clinic.

If a prescription runs out and no refill is available, a patient may not be able to go the weekend without their medication, so a trip to the walk in clinic will enable them to see a doctor and get a refill from the on-site pharmacy.

For all of those weekend athletes who cannot resist an impromptu game of backyard football, the clinic also has an on-site digital x-ray machine. With a staff trained to handle sports injuries and who have the training to treat either a sprain or set a broken bone, this news should come as a great relief. The patient will even receive a CD copy of their x-ray to share with family and friends, as well as their doctor come Monday morning.

Colds, coughs, bites, rashes, fevers, vomiting, infections, earaches, cuts, burns and various other ailments can be treated by a licensed medical staff who are trained to handle urgent care needs at a reasonable cost to the patient. Anyone entering a walk in clinic will be pleasantly surprised to find a staff who is kind, compassionate and very professional, for they understand those are necessary qualities to display in order for a patient to feel they will be well taken care of here.
