should i get a aerochamber? anyone used one?
Best answer:
If direct inhalation isn't working for you as well as you'd like, get the aerochamber.yes, an aerochamber is a great device to help deliver the medication in an inhailer better. it helps b/c you don't have to inhale at the moment you press down on your inhailer. you can press then inhale slow and deep. you get more medication that way. better medication deposition and it goes a lot deeper.
fyi....you should not be able to taste the medication. if you are tasting it, it is going to your tongue, and not into your lungs. make sure your tongue is out of the way.
if the inhailer is still not working for you, ask your doc about a nebulizer. The arochamber is a wonderful device. It greatly increases the amount of medication that gets into your lungs. The more medication that gets into your lungs on each "squirt" the less you may have to use your inhaler.
Inhalers "shoot" out the medication at around 200 miles an hour. The spacer allows the medication to slow down preventing it from slamming against the back of your throat. Inhalers are lung medications and do no good stuck in the back of your mouth.
Go ahead and ask your doctor. I am sure he will say the same thing.
Like Gretchen posted, if the inhaler is still not working for you, ask your doc about a nebulizer OR alternative medication like Singluair.Absolutley get the Aerochamber to maximize the efficiency of your inhaler and make your medication go farther both financially and physically.
Steps for Using a Spacer with an MDI
Insert the inhaler/canister into spacer and shake.
Breathe out.
Put the spacer mouthpiece into your mouth.
Press down on the inhaler once.
Breathe in slowly (for 3-5 seconds).
Hold breath for 10 seconds.
